RTM's planned Phase 1 operations transform end-of-life batteries and production scrap into black mass and recovered metals through a controlled, safety-first process.

Black mass + metals

1 · Collection

Receiving end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and production scrap from EVs, manufacturing, fleets, battery-swap networks, and energy storage — with intake screening and documentation.

2 · Safe discharge

Controlled deactivation to safely remove residual energy from cells and modules, reducing thermal and electrical risk before any physical processing.

3 · Dismantling

Systematic breakdown of battery packs and modules to separate housings, wiring, and components — preparing materials for size reduction.

4 · Shredding

Controlled mechanical size reduction of dismantled material within managed conditions to produce a consistent feed for separation.

5 · Separation

Physical separation processes sort the shredded stream into distinct material fractions — isolating black mass from metals and other components.

6 · Material recovery

Recovered outputs include black mass plus copper, aluminium, steel, and plastics — directed back toward the manufacturing and materials supply chain.

What Phase 1 is designed to recover

Mechanical recycling is planned to yield a stream of valuable, reusable materials:

  • Black mass — the concentrated feedstock containing nickel, cobalt, lithium, and manganese
  • Copper — from current collectors and wiring
  • Aluminium — from housings and current collectors
  • Steel — from casings and structural components
  • Plastics — from separators and housings
Future phase

Hydrometallurgical refining

Later phases are planned to add chemical refining — processing black mass to recover battery-grade nickel, cobalt, lithium, and manganese, moving RTM further up the value chain toward finished battery materials.
